Peer Mediation and Restorative Approaches

Our Peer Mediator training teaches pupils life skills which enable them to resolve lower-level conflicts amongst their peers. This not only creates a more harmonious school and playground, but also reduces staff time taken to resolve conflicts.

When school staff use a Restorative Approach to manage conflicts, it not only teaches children empathy, emotional literacy and to understand the impact of their actions on others, and to take responsibility for their actions, it also creates a sense of belonging to the school, which, according to research, is one of the most important protective factors. The way children are spoken to, how behaviour is addressed and the atmosphere created in the school are crucial.
When schools train all staff in Restorative Approaches, as well as pupils as Peer Mediators, it leads to a fully restorative school ethos, where a Restorative Approach becomes the way of being, rather than doing. This enables all pupils to feel valued, respected and heard. This, in turn, builds positive relationships, creating a cohesive and caring school community where everyone can feel that all important sense of belonging.

We also offer bespoke, interactive year and form group workshops, which can be adapted to suit your school’s needs.

Our workshops aim to empower pupils to:

• Develop Empathy and Understanding
• Take Responsibility for their Actions
• Understand their Feelings and Emotionally Regulate
• Build Good Relationships and Manage Interpersonal Conflicts
• Have an Appreciation and Acceptance of Difference
• Build Resilience
